Cape Cod's Holiday Strolls Land on the Same Two Weekends This December. Here's How to Fit More of Them In

October 29, 2026

Most of the Cape's December falls on two weekends. Between Friday, December 4 and Sunday, December 6, at least seven towns hold a holiday stroll, fair or festival, and Provincetown's Holly Folly opens on that same weekend. A week later, Chatham, Osterville and Wellfleet all hold their main event on the evening of Friday, December 11. You can't pick one stroll per weekend and still see the rest, so a good plan depends on start times. The schedules make that possible. On the first Saturday, most of the posted start times are either 10 a.m. or around 4 p.m., so you can plan around those two times. On the second weekend, Friday night is the busy part, and Saturday and Sunday are lighter.

Here is how the 2026 calendar fits together, starting with the events that open before either weekend.

The season starts the Friday after Thanksgiving

The first lights go on November 27. That afternoon, Mashpee Commons holds its annual tree lighting on Steeple Street from 3:30 to 5 p.m. As of late October, the Commons listed the details as still to come. The same night, Gardens Aglow at Heritage Museums & Gardens opens for the season. It runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on each scheduled date. If you go from the tree lighting at 5 to a Gardens Aglow time slot, you can see both on the same Friday, the weekend before the big crowds.

Something else is already open by then. The Sandwich Glass Museum's Annual Glassblower's Christmas runs every day from November 15 through December 30, 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a daily ticket or a membership. It's open on all the days in between the two big weekends, and that matters once you see how full those weekends are.

Saturday, December 5, by the hour

This is the most crowded day on the Cape's holiday calendar. Here is what's scheduled, in order of start time:

Time Event Where
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Eastham Holiday Festival and Toy Drive, Santa 10 a.m. to noon Eastham
10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Christmas in the Village, a two-day fair Sandwich
10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Hyannis Main Street Stroll Main Street, Hyannis
4 p.m. Harbor Lighting and Boat Parade Hyannis harbor
4 – 8 p.m. Falmouth Village Holiday Stroll, tentative Main Street and Queen's Buy Way, Falmouth
4:30 – 8:30 p.m. Gardens Aglow, timed tickets Heritage Museums & Gardens
Times not posted Brewster for the Holidays, Christmas in Harwich Brewster, Harwich
All weekend Holly Folly Provincetown

The day's events start at two times. Eastham's festival, Sandwich's fair and the Hyannis stroll all open at 10 a.m. Eastham ends at 1, Sandwich goes until 4, and Hyannis runs until 7. At 4 p.m., the Hyannis boat parade and the Falmouth stroll begin at the same time Sandwich's fair is closing. Both of those are listed rain or shine. The Falmouth stroll goes until 8, so you can still get there after watching the boats in Hyannis. The parade is a single event at 4, so you have to be at the harbor for it.

The Cape Cod Chamber's listing for the Hyannis stroll includes horse-and-carriage rides, holiday crafts, a cookie stroll contest and a petting zoo during the day. The Hyannis Holiday site calls the event a two-day weekend, Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5. Some of the text further down that page still describes last year's event, so the Chamber listing is the more reliable source for Saturday's times.

Two ways to plan the Saturday, using only the posted times:

  1. Starting at the Upper Cape end. Go to Christmas in the Village in Sandwich in the morning, head to Hyannis in time for the 4 p.m. boat parade, then go to Gardens Aglow with a ticket for a later time slot. Heritage says its tickets are for a specific date and time, recommends buying online in advance, and says walk-up tickets aren't guaranteed. On the busiest Saturday of the season, buy yours ahead of time.
  2. Starting at the Outer Cape end. Go to Eastham's festival while Santa is there between 10 and noon, then spend the afternoon at the Brewster and Harwich events, then go to Provincetown or Hyannis for the evening.

Falmouth's Holidays by the Sea weekend includes more than the stroll. It also has caroling in Woods Hole, a trolley to the Nobska Lighthouse Holiday Open House, Santa arriving by boat at Falmouth Harbor, the 15th annual Jingle Jog and GhELF Run, and the lighting of the Village Green. The Chamber labels the 2026 schedule tentative, so check the times again the week of the event.

Sunday, December 6, has fewer events

Sunday has fewer events, and they're spread across the day. Falmouth's 63rd annual Christmas Parade starts at noon, with the theme "From Sea to Shining Sea: Celebrating 250 Years of America." Sandwich's Christmas in the Village has a shorter second day, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Yarmouth Port Christmas Stroll runs along Route 6A from 1 to 4 p.m. It's free and happens rain or shine.

If you missed Sandwich on Saturday because you were in Hyannis or Falmouth, Sunday morning is your second chance, and Yarmouth Port fills the afternoon. Brewster, Harwich and Provincetown still have events running too, so the Outer Cape route works on Sunday as well.

The second weekend centers on Friday night

The second weekend is busiest on Friday, the reverse of the first. On Friday, December 11:

  • Wellfleet holds its Holiday Tree Lighting and Sing-Along at 4 p.m. on the Town Hall green.
  • Osterville holds its Village Christmas Open House and Stroll from 4 to 9 p.m., with a parade of decorated golf carts at 5:30.
  • Chatham begins Christmas by the Sea with its Friday night Christmas Stroll and Tree Lighting on Main Street.

As of late October, the Chatham Chamber hadn't posted a time for its Friday events and says to check back for the detailed schedule. Osterville runs the longest of the three, until 9, so it's the easiest one to reach after something else.

Saturday and Sunday that weekend are mostly daytime. On Saturday, December 12, the Annual Holiday Cookie Stroll runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. A $25 ticket includes a map and booklet to historic village homes. Children under 12 are free. The stops include the Cape Cod Cultural Center and the Bass River Yacht Club, where the Chamber says Santa may appear at the docks. St. David's Episcopal Church and the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church serve lunch with holiday music, and a free Holly Trolley runs between stops. The same morning, Chatham holds Breakfast with Santa at the Wayside Inn. On Sunday, December 13, the Dennis Village Stroll runs from noon to 3 p.m.

So a full weekend could be Osterville on Friday night, the Cookie Stroll on Saturday, and Dennis on Sunday afternoon, with no overlapping times.

Provincetown and Gardens Aglow run through the rest of December

Provincetown has handled the crowding by spreading out. Holly Folly now runs every weekend in December, starting with December 4–6 and December 11–13, and 2026 is its second year in the month-long format. So you can skip Provincetown on the two busiest weekends and still go later in the month.

Gardens Aglow is on a similar schedule. After opening Thanksgiving weekend, it runs December 2–6, December 8–13, December 15–23, and December 26–27. Timed general admission is $30 for nonmember adults and $20 for ages 3 to 17, with lower member prices. It's closed on the Mondays between the scheduled weeks, so check the night before you plan around it. The stretch from December 15 to 23 has no village strolls on the dates above, which makes it a less crowded time to go.

Dinner after the Hyannis boat parade

If you're eating in Hyannis on December 5, there's one recent change to know about. Wimpy's Seafood Cafe & Market moved from Osterville to the former Roadhouse Cafe at 488 South St., Hyannis. The Cape Cod Times reported it was set to open there October 19, serving lunch and dinner daily. If you're going to Christmas in Harwich, the Cape Cod Chronicle reported that Harwich Port Village Landing, 575 Route 28, added new tenants this year: Style & Sea Boutique, Charlie's Ice Cream Sandwich, and Three Harbors Coastal Kitchen, which comes from the family behind the two Milano's restaurants. Call either place ahead of time to confirm it's open and to check its December hours.
